Welcome to my page! This page will be dedicated to Halloween, and basically, what Halloween IS.
The Origins of Halloween
According to Nicholas Rogers, a historian who has explored the origins of the holiday that is Halloween, "some folklorists have detected its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, it is more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain, whose original spelling was Samuin (pronounced sow-an or sow-in)". The name "Halloween" was first used in the 16th Century, and represent a Scottish variant of "All Hallows-Even", or "All Hallow's Eve", the day before "All Hallow's Day"
Symbology of Halloween
The many of the symbols of Halloween are derived from national customs, Gothic or horror litterature, such as "Frankenstein" and "Dracula", and classic horror movies, like "Frankenstein" and "The Mummy". Halloween imagery includes themes of death, evil, the occult, or mythical monsters.[12] Black and orange are the holiday's traditional colors.
The Origins of Trick Or Treating
The practice of dressing up and going from door to door asking for treats dates back to the Middle Ages, and the traditional Christmas practice of wassailing. However, the modern day practice of Trick Or Treating also has it's origins in the Middle Ages, in the practice of Souling, where the poor would go from door to door on November 1st (All Souls Day), and beg for food for those who had died for those that had died on All Souls Day (November 2nd)
